Idea fencing means defining what something is NOT before defining what it IS. MIT researchers found that ideas fail when they get confused with adjacent, similar ideas, and Claude does the same thing: it defaults to the nearest familiar pattern when your instructions are ambiguous. The fix is drawing a fence.
